Toddler screaming at nap and bedtime
« on: April 29, 2016, 13:05:30 pm »
My daughter will be 2.5 years in June. Since 10 months she has gone to sleep straight away both for naps and at night. In the last two weeks she has been screaming at both nap time and bedtime. She has started wanting a lot of toys in bed and will scream out for them if she does not have all of them, or if one falls out of the cot etc. She also tries to get us into the room with various requests. It's got to the point where she is screaming for up to 1.5 hours. I've found that if I do go in to her often the requests just change and the screaming gets worse.

Her routine before this started was as follows:
Wake 6-6.30
Breakfast 7.30
Play
Lunch at 12
Nap 1-3
Play
Dinner 5-5.30
Play
Tv from 6.30
Bottle 6.45
Changing for bed and bed 7.15

If relevant we also have a 7 month baby.

Any tips gratefully received as I am exhausted

She may need her nap cut back a bit at this age - how long has she been on this routine? It can also be developmental too, those leaps usually happen on birthdays and half birthdays.

That's interesting to know as we're not far off her half birthday. She's been in this routine at home for about a year. At nursery, which she attends two days a week she sleeps a lot earlier but it does not really seem to help at night. We go on holiday next week but once we are back I will try adjusting her nap. Thank you

Hi there, at 2.5 we were on the way to nap dropping. At 30 months Olly was down to a 1 hour nap at 1.30-2.30.

I would try cutting the nap down and pushing it back a bit as she is probably under tired for nap and then BT.
