How much sleep does your 3yo get?
« on: May 06, 2016, 05:36:09 am »
DD1's nights used to be mostly 11 hours but now 10.5 seems to be more the norm. Is this about right??
If so I think she may need a later BT as its been 7pm for ages and I'm getting sick of 5.30am wu.

She doesn't nap any longer and dropped it about 6/7 months ago.

My DS isn't 3 yet but I did hear that toddlers' night cycle can shift to an hour later at night. Not sure exactly when/how that occurs but maybe on a good WU day/11 ons you can try pushing by 30 min. I'd also like to see replies with btdt experience.

DD is 2.5 now.I`ve struggled with this in the last few months, changing bt and capping naps to see if she goes better. She has a 1.5-2h nap and bt is around 9  :-[
If she falls asleep earlier than 8.30 she wakes up before 6. So I`d say around 10h at night and 1.5 during the day.
I think a later bt is worth a try.

DS just turned 4 but since he's been 3 his nights have been about 10.5hrs and he doesn't nap anymore.  BT is usually 7:30/8 which gives us a WU somewhere between 6-7am.  He wasn't the kid who dropped the nap and magically started doing 12hrs at night.

Mine is the kid who dropped his nap and magically started doing 12 hr nights - bliss!!
I had those 5 and 5.30, sometimes even 4.30 WUs for ever when he was 0-2.  OK it did eventually get better and more like 6.30am with a LOT of perseverance on my part and then the lights on timer really helped.  But he'd only ever done 10.5hr nights.
He stopped napping at 2.5yo and started the 12 hr nights and continued until about 4.5yo when it dropped to 11.5hr nights. I cannot tell you how nice it is :)

Creations, do you have a thread somewhere that describes what you did to get later WU at 6:30?

Haha!  No I don't think so.
I did a LOT of verbal in the early hours, he'd call to get up and I'd call back that "It's night time. go. to. sleep."
I also worked with the timer lights and a remote controlled light.
I also accepted later BT (8pm when we were on a regular routine.  Eventually BT refusal meant falling to sleep gone 9pm but that was during the 6 months he was preparing to nap drop).

There actually was a thread somewhere when clocks were changing, I say in it that I've not long managed to get WU closer to 6.30 and am not prepared to go back to 5.30 WUs again because of the clocks. In that instance I moved his day on something like 1.5-2hrs (not 1hr) to achieve a later WU (and I did it rapidly like 30 min per day not 15mins) and once he slept late enough I brought BT a bit earlier slowly.

My DD3 is 2 years 8 months and she sleeps about 11 hour nights on average...sometimes she wakes at 6:30, plays in bed and falls asleep again so tbh some nights I have no clue what her sleep is like bedtime is (and always has been) 8 pm.
