Dream feed question
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:59:50 am »
Hello my ds is 5 months old. He is ebf and since my last post is waking once a night, at approx 0330 for a feed. A few days ago he woke earlier at 2200 for a feed, didn't wake at 0330 and so slept all through the night until 0630 :-) He's done a similar thing twice before so I figured this was a natural dream feed. However when I try to replicate it and give him a dream feed myself, as tonight, it doesn't work and he still wakes at 0330 for a feed, any idea why that is? I gave my dream feed at the same times as his 2200. Thanks

Sorry your post was missed.

Have you tried the DF consistently for a week or so or just for the odd day or two? It can take a while to affect their NWs.

Honestly the same thing happens to me... :) Last night I was so tired I slept through my alarm for the DF and she (4.5m) slept directly through until 320 and woke to eat so 8hrs from BT. But when I do the DF she still wakes around 330. Dont have an answer as to why.. Weird.

I pretty much never DF my LOs for this reason, I never found it made any difference with the NW and in fact just disturbed their sleep, not to mention I was staying up later to do the DF.  It works really well for some, not so much for others.  And to me it just seemed like yet another thing I'd have to wean lol ::). Both mine did a good stretch to 3/4am pretty early on with no DF.  DS didn't actually STTN until 1 yr and DD was 6 months.

As Ali said, maybe trying doing it for a few days in a row and see what happens, if it doesn't help push the NW then I'd say just feed when he actually wakes/gets hungry.

Thanks All,
I abandoned the dream feed and by some stroke of luck he started to sleep through the entire night without waking for a feed- hoorah!!! BUT then we went on holiday and his sleeping went to pot, he was feeding a lot and also in the day time so not sure if coincided with a growth spurt? First day home today and first night back in his own bed and really hoping he goes back to his good sleeping.....
