How to teach baby to sleep without mummy in the room
« on: October 10, 2016, 18:22:39 pm »
Hello,
I have a 9month old baby, when he was 4 months old we did pupd and worked great. he self settles and was sleeping through the night.
However, he always falls asleep with me in the room and me putting a gentle hand on his tummy. Today i tried leaving the room before he fell asleep but he cried until I gave in and he fell asleep when i was in the room holding him.
lately i have found that my presence distracts him and is taking longer to fall asleep. I dont rock or hold him to sleep.

Is this a sleep association problem and if so how can i solve this issue and teach my little one to sleep without me in the room? I have read tracy's book but dont recall discussing this issue.

Thank you for your help!

Hi hun great job using PUPD.

However, he always falls asleep with me in the room and me putting a gentle hand on his tummy.

Yes I do think this is a sleep association if he's never really been able to fall asleep with out you in the room. But also there is a big leap at 8/9 months and this is also when separation anxiety can kick in. What happens when you try and leave the room and let him fall alseep without you?

Oh no !  :-[ thank you!
When i try to leave he either cries straight away or stays in his cot for around 10-15 mins and then cries.
Do you have any suggestions of how i can solve this?  I cannot find anything abt this in the books
Thank you!!

Hi hun, I think it might be time to teach him how to sleep independently of you. It's not an easy thing to do but it will make your life easier when it's all said and done. What type of sleep training have you done in the past.

Hi hun, I used Gradual Withdrawal. Take a peak here;
