9mo naps
« on: October 30, 2016, 11:17:51 am »
Hello
I need some advice for my 9mo.
We were in a really good routine; she would normally nap for between 1 and 2 hours on the morning and then have a shorter 40 minute nap in the afternoon. This worked really well and she would then go for between 11 and 12 hours at night.
However the last week the morning naps haven't been so good and I'm not sure where we're going wrong. Any advice appreciated!

25/10
Wake  7.10
S 10.45-11.20
S 3.20-3.50
Bed 7

Wake 6.25
S 10.10-11.35
S 3-3.30
Bed 7.10

Wake 6.45
S 10.30-12
S 3.45-4.15
Bed 7.30

Wake 6.50
S 10.25-11.30
S 3.05-3.50
Bed 7

Wake 6.45
10.30-11.15
3.15-3.50 she was quiet so I left her and she fell back to sleep
4.05-4.50
Bed 8.15 - late bedtime because of late nap and clocks changing

Wake 6
9.30-10.05 I left her in bed as she was quiet and still. She fell back to sleep
10.50-11

She's now chatting in her bed. Almost certain she won't go back to sleep now for a third time. This leaves me unsure about putting her down for her afternoon naps. She doesn't give me that many tired cues so I have to guess it a lot. Today we're not helped by the clocks changing!

Hi there

Have you been on the routine you listed below for a while or is it recent?

It could well be the start of the 2-1 From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older) and she may need an A increase.

We've been on a 3.5h A time for about a month now; maybe a little less. I've tried doing a 3.75h for our first nap but I'm stuck at whether she's OT or UT

A times do increase quite often at this age. You will need to hold it for a few days to see if she settles into it. I see one day she did a 1.5hr nap after a 3.75hr. How is she waking from the nap, happy?

She's happy all the time! I would say she needs an hour to be fully rested for another good A time

I think those naps look pretty typical for a 9 mo...one longer , one shorter and around 2hrs total daysleep across both naps. If she's happy still and night sleep ok, I'd stick with it.

ETA sorry just noticed the last 2 days with later BT and trickier pm nap. Could be disruption due to clock change. Let us know how next couple of days go.  As Lauren says it could be an early start to 2-1 or there is also a big developmental leap and sleep regression with it at this age. Hold any changes for a few more days and let us know how it's going.
