bedtime at 9 months old
« on: December 10, 2016, 09:13:34 am »
S just turned 9 months. She's on a 2 naps schedule from before 7 months, her A times are 3;30 h and 4 h. things were are going great for about 2 weeks meaning she no longer wakes during the night. But...in the past 3-4 days, she resists sleep at bedtime, so instead of falling asleep at 9, it's now 9:30 or even 10. she just stays with her eyes closed, seems really sleepy but won't fall asleep. (she falls asleep in my arms, while i walk her across the room). so...what's the deal with this behaviour? thanks !

How much day sleep is get getting hun?  It could be possible she's UT and getting to much day sleep and you may need to start capping one of the naps.  I think at 9 months my DD started doing 1 long nap and 1 nap that was a bit shorter.

each nap is about 1.5h, so in total 3h of daytime sleep, with 9,5-10,5h of night sleep. should i try to lengthen the first A time to prepare for the change to 1 long nap and 1 catnap?

Can you post your EASY and we can see if there are any changes.  It could be a number of things, perhaps 3hrs day sleep is too much, or maybe not enough A time to bed, or not enough A time in general.

i'm pretty sure the A time before bedtime is too short but it does not fit any other way. it i take her to bed earlier for the second nap, she fights it and wakes shortly after.
7 AM -Wake up and breastfeed
8:30 - breakfast
10:30- nap with 100ml of formula before
2:30- lunch
4- 4:30 nap with formula before nap
8:30 bath..ussualy sleeping from 9 PM...latelly it's been 9:30- 9:50 pm.
Also i've noticed she started to wake a bit earlier in the morning. before it was after 7, usually 7:30, sometimes 8. now it's 7- 7:20 tops.
i was also thinking about cutting out one of the milk feeds, wasn't sure if the one after wake up or the one before the first nap.
thanks!

Okay so based on this I would absolutely cap that 2nd nap.  If she's not going down until 4/4:30 I wouldn't let her sleep longer than an hour and then try BT at maybe 8/8:30pm, that is if that BT would work for your family.  Here we prefer an earlier BT as our LOs need to be up early in the morning to go to daycare, so we do BT at 7pm, and if you want an earlier BT then I would cap the 2nd nap even further to maybe 30mins.  That is essentially what we did until we really hit the 2-1.

Since I do think you are starting to hit the 2-1, the other thing you can do is cap the morning nap to maybe 45mins, and then try the 2nd nap 3hrs later.  So something like:

WU 7
Nap 10:30-11:15
Nap 2:15 - 3:45 (or as long as LO sleeps)
BT 7:30
