The right timing for a first pran walk
« on: January 03, 2017, 18:56:54 pm »
Do you have any recos in your country? Especially asking those who live in colder places. We have winter now and it's a mild one - around 0C but it's going to be -30 during weekend. So what are the recos when I can take a newborn for a first longer walk? Was in the minimal temperature?

I took mine out at 3 days old but it was poss milder here maybe 2/3 degreees last Jan. As long as wrapped up warm don't see the harm. I just avoid fog x

I had all summer babies so by the time we were in -30/40 temps they were a few months old but honestly we went out regardless (DD1 had a sled ride every night of her first winter excepting on night there was a blizzard). We had a covered sled or I wore them and used DH's winter coat to zip around both of us. As long as windchill isn't a factor it should be fine.

My HV was horrified when I asked what time she'd be coming as we might go out for a walk - and even though it was a cold winter it was nowhere near as cold as other places, he was probably a few weeks old when I horrified her. Realised it's better not to mention walks with HV after that.
I took mine in a sling inside my coat (with it zipped up to his head, not above) -  he ended up too hot not too cold.

Sorry, I'm no help! But enjoy your walk Marta :)

Ah that's lovely.
And if it makes you feel better in yourself then it's certainly worth wrapping up and getting out :)

We got similar climate :) Did they warn you to prepare for polar winter?
DD was born end of December, same as your ds2. I think she was 4 days old when I took her out, not long, just around our building. It was a sunny day, not very cold. I wouldnt take her out this weekend if she was newborn though. It will be -20something, there is a lot of snow, roads not ideal, especially for a pram.

Yep, this weekend is -15/-20 so we stay at home but from Monday it's going to be between -5 and 0 so definitely we will try and go:).
