3.5 month old up every 30minutes at night

My 3.5 month old son is a horrible sleeper to start with   
Most recently he can't get through the sleep cycles which started during the naps a week ago   now it's extended into his night sleep.
I also stopped nursing to sleep and trying to eliminate the pacifier.   
I will normally shush pat  but what if that doesn't work?
He's not hungry because as soon as I try to nurse him he's just using me as a pacifier and falls asleep
If I lay him back down he rouses 30minutes later   

Can I use pupd NOW?   I haven't slept a wink all night

Hi there
Just stopping by to say I have posted to your other thread here:
Baby cries as soon as being swaddled
and that a strict PUPD method is not a suitable at this age.
If LO is crying a lot of course pick up, use your shush/pat method and continue until he is calm, put down in the cot and continue shush/pat all the way to sleep if necessary.  If he is used to nursing to help him sleep it is normal to take some time to learn to sleep without that prop.
Some night feeds are still normal at this age so if it has been 3hrs+ since last feed then I would go ahead and feed him otherwise he will wake again shortly after.

You mentioned shush pat all the was to sleep if necessary.   
I've always patted all the way to sleep.  Should I attempt to gradually lessen the patting to see if He will fall asleep on his own. .  Or stop patting once he's stopped crying?

HI you can start to lessen the patting now.

Could you also post your EASY as this may help. How often do you feed? At around 4 months there is a big growth spurt so be aware that he may start waking through hunger again soon!
