Nights have turned bad 8 months old
« on: June 02, 2017, 11:44:07 am »
My LO has been waking in the night more times each night for a few days. Prior to this she was STTN.

Last night was 4 times crying/wailing struggling to settle and a couple times where she stirred, barked out but went back to sleep.

About 2weeks ago she cut her first tooth and about 1 week ago she cut the 2nd. During that time we had some napping and EW issues. Her naps have been back on track for a few days now and we have been able to return to our normal bedtime the last few days.

Ever since her napping and EW improved her nights have gotten worse. In my experience good napping used to lead to good nights so I have no clue what is going on.

The only thing different in her sleep environment is that her room is darker (we improved the blackout when she was having EW)

Very tired... Please help :(

It could very much be the teeth hun, have you tried giving meds at BT or during the NW?  What's her daytime routine like?

I was giving night time meds I guess I didn't know how long I should continue with that... We stopped a couple of days ago, so that might make sense.

Wake 6-7 BF
Solids (1.5h post)
BF (35 min before nap)
10-11 nap (4hAT) ~60 min
11-12 wake
Solids
BF 4h post top up
215-315 (~315-330AT)1.5h
345-430 (don't sleep past 430)
BF
Solids
7-730 BF/BT (630 if early wake/early day)
* Previously she would STTN* last few days numerous night wakes

Her days have been pretty good. We gave her medicine last night, she woke up crying around 4 (meds would have been worn off). So there was some improvement.

How long does this teething pain usually last? She cut the 2nd tooth just over a week ago.

Yay for some improvement! Her daytime routine looks pretty good so if the mess seemed to help I'd stick withy that for a few days.  Even after the tooth has cut it still needs to move up which can cause discomfort.  Some LOs handle it better than others, my DS was an awful teether but my DD was a lot more unaffected by it.

How long did you find you needed to medicate at night?

She still seems to be in pain, we medicate before bed, she wakes up crying hard after medicine is run out, we give another dose and she settles after 30 mins...

Ok...
So last night despite meds before bed, LO started crying at 945 (eyes closed head down, but real crying) a light touch to the back and she would settle. This went on intermittently every 5-10 min until 1030.

At 1030 she fully woke and crying increased. She did not settle until 1145.

I am so confused about what to do...

How's it going now? Is she still waking and crying?

Are the teeth that were cutting all through now?

Does she go to sleep for naps and BT independently or does she need help or a prop like a soother?

Now it is more like she is crying in her sleep for short bursts. Prob 5-6 times a night (30sec-1 min) but she settles herself. Not sure what that it....?

Her 2 bottom teeth have cut through, but now I am wondering about her upper teeth. Do they come in that close?

She does fall asleep on her own, she does use a paci but she takes it in an out on her own and settles herself without re-plugs most if the time.

I think teeth can come in any pattern really.

If she's not needing you at night then it might be a case of just riding it out.
