Persevere with DF?
« on: July 05, 2017, 14:52:46 pm »
My Lo has just turned 4 months and for the past 10 weeks either will sleep through or at least wake anywhere between 3-5:30 for a feed (which makes the 7am feed almost non existent which then puts our routine completely out of whack!) ) so I thought if I did the DF that would eliminate that early morning feed seeing as she can clearly go 9-12 hours straight. We are on day 4 and she's still waking anywhere between 2-4am for that extra feed, so she's not even going 5 or 6 hours now.should I give up the ghost or persevere with it?

Does she take a full feed when she wakes? Would she accept a dummy instead? Will she resettle for DH? (Josie would wake for me because she smelled milk but would resettle for DH.)

She refuses a dummy, Hasn't taken one in months, she takes a full feed every time, tho if I don't do the DF she doesn't wake any earlier, will go straight through til early hours morning, it's almost like the DF is just a bonus feed for her, one hat she can live without if she needs to but will take if it's offered, I'm just wondering  if it's worth persevering to see if it pans out. DH says it's not working and to stop but should I give it a few more days or am I actually doing more damage by introducing another feed when she's been only having one for so long now? Even with just the one feed at night she wasn't that interested in a morning feed at 7am

What about keeping the DF and gradually offering less and less if she wakes? If she is sleeping through some nights with the DF you may be able to reduce the next feed and she may be hungry for her first bottle of the day.

I would try the reduce by 1oz every 3 nights method. I would normally say she's young to do this, but if she has slept through quite regularly then maybe she is ready to not have that feed.

What do you think?

Well now I don't not know what to think!!
Last night went like this:
6pm bedtime
10pm DF full bottle (200mls)
2:30am woke up took full bottle 200mls
6am woke up took full bottle 200 mls and has hardly had even 100mls since then and it's almost lunchtime!! I feel like now I'm making her take most of her calories at night and so I'm going backwards. Maybe I should just stop that DF

Ok so I didn't do the DF last night and she woke at 11:30, gave her a bottle, she drank most of it. She woke again st 4am so I only let her drink half a bottle (100mls)  here we are at the start of the day and she's refusing her bottle.
Have I messed up a good thing by trying to bring in the DF?

Probably too soon to tell. Maybe ditch the DF for a few days and see if a new pattern emerges and then go from there. :)
