Please helpppp - 7wk baby catnap all day long
« on: July 17, 2017, 12:41:22 pm »
My baby girl is 7 week old and i'm struggling with her nap. Since 5 week old she could not sleep longer than 45-50mins anymore. At first i thought because she was on wonderweek but after that nothing changes. She used to sleep by shh/pat, paci and white noise but then now i have to hold her until she complete falls asleep, if not she would cry right after i put her down.
That's why i always have to put her to night routine really early like 3pm or something like that. Sometimes i have to let her sleep in my tummy to make her sleep longer. Because of that she eats just a small amount each times, sometimes i have to skip 1 meal to wait until the next E (sometimes she could not sleep because she is too hungry - i think because she licks her finger or something like that, then i have to feed her)
At night she sleeps pretty well, around 5-6hours after bath and around 3hours later. But she always wakes at 5am and then 6am. These days it was so hard to get her to sleep without feeding her both of the times (she wont use paci, shh works sometimes)

Pls help, i could not do anything during the day and because of early night- sleeping  so she wakes up really early in the morning

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
Just a gentle reminder that at least in the US, the Academy of Pediatrics recommend that babies sleep on their backs for highest safety. You can discuss this with your pediatrician.

You sweet baby girl is actually doing pretty well for her age.  Sleeping 5-6 hours a night is a great feat. For some babies, like it did mine, their naps don't lengthen until later. You can try wake to sleep which is described here to see if the nap will extend.  You have to be persistent as it can take up to 3-4 days to notice a difference.
As for putting her down after she falls asleep, try to put her down right before she falls asleep and apply your hand on her tummy and hold her arms down gently. Is she swaddled? This will help in a couple months to get used to falling asleep in her bed.

Feeding her at night and early morning when she wakes is very normal for her stage, especially that early morning feed.
