Period & Low Supply
« on: January 30, 2018, 15:38:02 pm »
Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on this forum. So glad to have found y'all! I have four kids, three girls ages 6,4,2 and a 6-month old boy. I am breastfeeding my 6-month old and my cycle unfortunately returned at 4 months despite EBF. I had a huge drop in supply the first time it came back during ovulation...I thought I was drying up, but thankfully my supply bounced back after 5 long and miserable days. Last month, there was only a small dip in supply, but this month my supply has once again crashed:( Today is day 3 of my period and 4th day of low supply...I think today it is just a little up , but not at all near normal levels.  I just hope it will recover again completely this time...I'm not ready to stop breastfeeding! Anyone else have a supply problem around ovulation/AF?

Totally! Haven’t got my period yet this time around but last time I definitely remember a supply drop during my period. You can try fenugreek 2 tablets 3 x a day but really you just have to tide it out 😣

I got a dip in supply with my AF too.

As your DS is getting older now, you may not find the drop in supply to be such an issue as with a younger baby, especially in a couple more months or so.  I wouldn't have thought you'd have to give up because of it dipping some months.  Your DS will be able to adjust to it :-*

(Also try the things PPs mentioned too :) )

Just keep feeding frequently and supply will match demand.

I got my period at 4 months with DD1 and at 2 months with DD2, despite EBF both. I always have a noticeable dip in supply a couple of days before and after the start of my period, especially this time around with my second. I've tried most suggested remedies and found that a bowl of quaker oats each morning, was the most effective. I also drink a couple of fenugreek teas a day and I think that works as well.

I BF for a year with my first and am already on month 8 with my second, so no reason to believe that your period will interfere if you want to continue :)

Good luck!
