4mo transitioning from bed-sharing and nursing-to-sleep
« on: February 09, 2018, 18:14:12 pm »
Posting here because I'm sure I'll need help along the way. :) Does our current plan sound smart?

Baby #3 just hit 4 months yesterday. She has been bed-sharing at night (waking to nurse every 1-2 hours).  Daytime naps are in bassinet (rocked-to-drowsy, then laid in bassinet and patted+shushed to sleep).  The bassinet is in our bedroom.

We are ready to sleep through the night! :)

Our current plan is to gradually reduce the # of nighttime nursing sessions, replacing with pat-and-shush. During this process, when she does nurse, we'll just nurse to calm (not to sleep), and then pat-and-shush her in the bassinet. Once she is reliably sleeping through the night we'll move her to the kids' room (quite a ways from our room, so we can't relocate her until night sleep is pretty consistent!)

General daytime routine
wake up around 6:45
E 7:00
A 7:15-9:00
S 9:00-10:30 (pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet, and then pat-and-shush again around 45-minute mark)
E 10:30
A 10:45-1:45
S 1:30 - 3:30 (pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet, then I have to wake her up around 2:30 to pick up my son from school -- she hates the car and screams for about 10 minutes, but usually falls asleep and I wake her up when we get home at 3:30)
E 3:30
A 3:45 - ? (evening nap doesn't have a predictable time)
S ? - ?  (evening nap doesn't have a predictable time)
E ? (nurse whenever she wakes up)
A ? - 8:00
S 8:00 pat-and-shush to sleep

Wednesday night (no effort to sleep train, just a normal night)
8:00 pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
9:30 dream feed
11:00 wake-up and nurse to sleep in bed with mom
2:45 wake-up and nurse to sleep in bed with mom
3:45 wake-up and nurse to sleep in bed with mom
4:45 wake-up and nurse to sleep in bed with mom
5:45 wake-up and nurse to sleep in bed with mom
6:45 up for the day

Thursday night (first night of sleep training)
8:00 pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
9:30 wake-up screaming (in pain), nursed to comfort, then moved to bassinet
11:00 wake-up and nurse to drowsy, then pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
12:30 wake-up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
1:30 wake-up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
2:30 wake-up and nurse to sleep, then moved to bassinet
3:45 wake-up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
4:45 wake-up and nurse to sleep, then moved to bassinet

7:00 rock to sleep & sleep in babysitter's arms
10:30 wake-up and nurse to drowsy, then pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
1:42 wake up, give Hyland's colic tablet, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (18 minutes of patting)
2:15 wake up, give Hyland's colic tablet, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (10 minutes of patting)
3:25 wake up, nurse to drowsy, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (15 minutes of patting)
4:47 wake up, give Hyland's colic tablet, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (13 minutes of patting)
7:00 wake up, WIDE AWAKE, so we got up for the day

Friday night (third night of sleep training)
8:00 pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
10:25 dream feed
12:35 wake up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (15 minutes of patting)
1:35 wake up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (15 minutes of patting)
2:50 wake up, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet (5 minutes of patting)
3:50 wake up, give Hyland's colic tablet, pat-and-shush to sleep in bassinet
4:25 dream feed
5:35 wake up, nurse and then sleep in bouncer in living room while mom reads a book, so dad can get a few hours of sleep

Hi there.  Looks like things are moving in the right direction for you :)
Do you have any particular question or problem at the  moment or still happy to just keep at the sleep training for now?
