Nap and bedtime routine in a mess
« on: February 10, 2018, 16:33:33 pm »
I’ve had to re-register as I forgot my password I used to be babyrose and now babyrose2. For those of who don’t know me I have an older boy who will be 8 in may and two younger boys age 3 in October and were born at 30 weeks.

Overall sleep is excellent always has been, but a few illnesses after the Xmas period and recently with one of my boys having tonsillitis and being very ill has left our bedtime and nap time routine a mess and also starting nursery. After coming home from nursery they refuse to eat and nap times are somewhat ridiculous times getting later and later. Before they used too do this..,

Wu 7
1:30 1.5
8pm b/ time sleep through

Nap times are getting to after 2 sometimes 2:30
My son who had tonsillitis is in a absolutely terrible mood in the morning and after his nap. Ladies I really need your help

TIA nicola

Hi there :)
I think you can have your password reset, you could PM on of the admin if you need help.

So the boys are 3yrs and 4 months now?  They're big hey :)

It could be time to drop the nap if they are so resistant to it.  You could try a cold-turkey nap drop as they are quite big now, and go for EBT instead.
Or you could go a bit slower offering a CN at 2.30pm (as they are resistant to an earlier nap) and just give them 30 mins so they are waking at the same time they used to (3pm) and work out BT from there. BT could need to be earlier than 8pm due to having the shorter nap but you might need to experiment to see when they will go down well for BT.

What's happening with their eating then?  is this a result of starting nursery or the illness - are they both refusing to eat?
Are they having lunch at nursery and have you asked what they are eating and how much?  They could just be full and eating more in the earlier part of the day than the later part, quite often toddlers don't take much dinner.
The one who had tonsillitis though, it would be understandable that he could still be recovering and cautious about eating - do you feel that's what's happening or something else?

Hi 👋 it’s been a while since I’ve been in here😊 I tried with the password reminder but it didn’t recognise my username or email. Who can I get in touch with?

So the boys don’t sleep at nursery, they get dropped off at 8:30 and dad picks them up at 12 they walk down the road ( buggy) as soon as they get home they become very grumpy like it’s been a tough day for them and they refuse to eat then trying to get them to nap is just awful. Leo has been the worst with not eating but I think it’s probably the fact leo had tonsillitis but they both are quite bad. I will ask about the snacks tomorrow when I drop them off.

I really feel they are absolutely no where ready to dropping naps or capping them they are so high sleep needs, miss one nap and we are done for🙈

Today I left them to sleep til 7:30 A’s they had both been up last night at 1. My other half managed to get them a sleep today at there usual 1:30 time for 1.5😊

Perhaps you could PM Jaime?

Also there is a glitches board you can ask for help:

I will ask about the snacks tomorrow when I drop them off.
That would be really useful to know, what sort of foods they are given and how much. Can you ask about them drinking milk too and check how much water they are drinking?  The UK nurseries usually have those little cartons of milk with a straw but for some young children that's a big portion of milk which could understandably effect appetite.

Sounds like the transition from nursery to being back home is hard as well as them being exhausted from a busy morning. Although you are trying to fit lunch in before nap time are you offering food as soon as they come in? Have you tried 30-60 mins of an activity first before mentioning lunch?  By activity I don't mean something high stimulation but rather something where they can just reacclimatise to being home. All kids are different but mine really needed to be left for a good 30 mins after a busy morning out and about (not totally alone, I'd be in the room but I needed to not speak to him or try to play with him).  Mine used the TV to zone out for that 30 mins. I know not everyone likes to give TV and for some TV is over stimulating for for some it is a good zone-out kind of relaxation to recover from high levels of socialising and activity.

Thank you I will get in touch with Jamie.

Yes we tend to start lunch as soon as they get in because it doesn’t leave much time for getting ready for bed.

I’m feeling really unwell as there sleeping has been awful, migraines are beginning and it’s affecting my work. I’m going to keep a note to see who is doing what A times and NW’s to maybe give you a better idea.

Sorry to hear that.

As they are already grumpy and not eating and delaying nap time until 2 or 2.30pm anyway could you try out some zone-out time for them when they get home?  Perhaps 30-60 mins and then try lunch at 1pm and nap at 2pm?
This has reminded me so much of how my DS was after toddler groups or nursery or any out and about activity, he'd handle the activity fine but as soon as he got home he needed his alone/introvert time and if I tried to interrupt that he was likely to have a melt down.
