Won't eat veg as finger food
« on: July 24, 2005, 17:19:13 pm »
Hi there,

You all always have such great ideas...my LO will eat all kinds of finger food but won't eat veg that way.  She will still eat baby jar veg so i haven't been too worried yet.  Am i rushing her?

I have tried can, thinking they are softer.  Frozen, thinking they aren't as mushy.  Fresh, too.  Tried, green beans - carrrots - peas.

Any ideas ladies?

Great post Michlle  :D

I am in the same boat as you and have tried all the same things you have and Isabella will only eat veggies if they puree.   The only thing I haven't tried is putting cheese on them.  The reason I haven't tried them is, number 1 b/c I don't want her to get use to cheese on everything and number 2 b/c she really doesn't like cheese much.....

So; I'm also hoping you ladies have some ideas to throw out there...

thanks :D

hi.
knock on wood, my Tal loves allmost evrithing. i think it's a lot connected to the fact that we eat the same thing he eats, allways eating at the table, never facing the T.V & never forcing him to eat something he dosen't want. & all from day 1.
what i'm doing is cooking the vegetableswhit meat or bone in the water to give to it flavr. i'm putting inside as well: onion, parsley , dill, garlic, solt &  peper.
the most importent thing, i'm tatsting it. i wont give him somthing i wont ever eat.
in the case of fresh vegis, evry eavning (here we eat the meat in lunch)  i'm making the same  salat to him as to us. cutting small piece without the peel. in it i'm adding salt & peper & alot of olive oil.
he eats it & his elbows too.
again. it's importent to give him too eat the same thing u'r eating. they love to do the same things we do.
good luck
my littel Tal

My lo is doing the very same thing! I do give him what we have at the table, and also add seasoning (italian seasoning, cumin, garlic, etc). Still won't. Please keep the suggestions coming.
I know that acting nervous will not help, and that my job is just to keep presenting them to him, but I'd like to hear what other people have in mind.

It's all gone in cycles for us. From 9-12 mo, Tyler wouldn't touch a spoon and ate any kind of finger food. At 12 mo, he got back into the spoon, and will still eat finger food, just not veggies. Now, at 19 mo, he'll occasionally eat a veggie finger food, but I still give him mostly veggie puree to make sure he's eating some kind of veggie. Here's some stuff we've tried...sometimes successful, sometimes not!
- Douse veggie in sauce...cheese, tomato, etc
- Coat veggie in dry baby cereal, crushed cheerios, bread crumbs, or wheat germ
- Keep trying!

I've stopped stressing over it, and I'm just glad that he'll eat veggie puree instead of nothing at all. He may well go to kindergarten toting a lunchbox full of Gerber Stage 2!
