Getting baby to sleep longer
« on: August 07, 2005, 11:06:02 am »
I read teh sticky on top and I'm trying it.  So far it's backfiring but I only tried it one night.  Last night she went to bed at 8:30 instead of her normal 7:30 and she woke up at 5:45 this morning :(

So I'm wondering how many nights does this go into effect???

can you give us a rundown of the daily routine you are doing?  Age, BF/bottle feediong, and what her routine was like before you started this?

My daughter is 16 months old (today!)......she no longer is on the bottle.  her schedule currently is....

5:30-6:30 awake
6:30 milk in a sippy cup
7:30 breakfast
10:00 snacks (sometimes)
11:45 lunch
12:15-2:15 (sometimes to 2:45) nap
3:00 snack
5:30 dinner
6:45 bath, pajamas, snack, milk, brush teeth, story,
7:30 in crib

I tried for 4 consecutive nights to shift her bedtime to 8:30 but her wake time remained the same.

If you go directly to an hour plus keepin gher awake it will not help.

Does she sleep through the night?  Before she stopped bottles was she waking early for a 'drink'?

It could be a few things, one being she may be thirsty.  If you are giving her a sippy at 7, you could try giving her a pseudo dream feed, like water in a sippy, or even milk in her sippy at 5:30.  This is what we do with our 13 mo old, and she sleeps until 8, or 8:30.  For us it is a thirst thing.  Our son was the same way (but just a bad overall sleeper).

You could try that, or you could try to gradually move her bedtime up, I would not suggest geting her to bed after 8, as then that leads to toddlers who get to bed at 10, or whatnot.  And when you have a toddler running around the last thing you want is a toddler runing aruond at 20 while you are trying to relax ;)  Hope this helps a bit.

How many hours a day?
« Reply #4 on: September 16, 2005, 17:28:53 pm »
Gian is 13 month old and he is sleeping 9 hours at night. He also takes two naps during day. He never sleeps more than 12 hours a day.
Is that normal :?:  I’ve read of babies sleeping up to 16 hour a day.
He is very active and I just want to be sure he is getting enough rest.
