Switching himself from 3hr to 4 hr routine at 13 1/2 weeks!
« on: August 07, 2005, 19:17:29 pm »
Hello Everyone,
My ds is 13 1/2 weeks, and he has pretty much put himself on a 4 hour routine already.  He's so young, that I worry about this, but he seems fine.  We went on vacation for 6 days a couple of weeks ago, and since we returned, he just "switched!"  It's weird.  I know on a 4 hour schedule, babies should stay awake about two hours.  He's at about 1 hour and 45 mins to 2 hours now.  Before vacation, it was more like 1 hour and 20 mins or 1 hour and 30 mins, if we were lucky!  He's down to 2 long naps (2 hours or a bit more), plus his evening catnap.  His formaula intake has increased dramatically as well since he's only eating every 4 hours, which has been great.  He just seems so young to be on a four hour schedule, so I worry.  The vacation switch is just weird, so I'm hoping we didn't mess him up.  Do you think a 4 hour routine at 13 1/2 weeks is okay? (New Mom, Can you tell?)
Thanks!
Stephanie

It's totally fine, sugar.  Take a deep breath.  He is obviously a good eater, and if he's putting on weight steadily, there's no need to worry. :D

If he's happy healthy & gaining weight there is no reason to worry... my ds almost 11 weeks (but the size of a 4.5 mo) is on a 3.5/4/3.5 hour easy most days.
The thing to remember Tracy's books are a guide not hard & fast rules & that every baby is different... I have done lots os statistics in my career & averages mean just that averages & there is huge variation to make up that average!
