Becoming a Picky Eater
« on: August 15, 2005, 13:29:22 pm »
My 10 month old has been great at eating most things and has tried most things even though she doesnt eat very much at each go (and is slow to put on weight, hasnt reached 17lb yet)

But lately she is refusing most things except cheese / cheerios and yoghurt with fruit in. I know these are all good for her but my concern is that she is refusing other stuff now because she knows I will give her one of the above in desperation that she isnt eating

What do I do if she won't eat? I cant keep giving her one of the above as she will be realising that this is what she can get but on the other hand I dont want her to start losing weight, she needs to start putting on.

She may be going through a finger food phase. It's pretty common around that age for babies to only want finger foods for awhile. Try offering some different, age-appropriate finger foods and see if that helps. Well cooked vegetables, cut up soft fruit, and pasta are good options. Offer the spoon every so often, but if she isn't interested, don't push it.

If you've already tried offering other finger foods and she's still only eating cheerios and cheese, keep trying. It's normal for toddlers to only eat certain foods for awhile, then move on to something else. HTH!

I can relate.  My ds only wants cheese and bread for lunch and dinner.  Breakfast he does well for some reason eating a variety of food.  He won't take anything off of a spoon so I started using the Gerber Lil Dippers.  I feed him and then put the "spoon" on his tray and let him feed himself.  He doesn't get a whole lot in his mouth, but he does enjoy trying!
