Is feeding schedule causing night wakings?
« on: September 15, 2005, 15:14:31 pm »
Just wondering if anyone can help.  My daughter is 5.5 months old and on a 4 hour EASY.  I introduced rice cereal last week just for practice.  I figured she was ready as she was watching me eat, grabbing at my food, can hold her head up, sits with support, ect.  Our schedule looks like this:

7:00 wake, I think, she is usually babbling in her room when I wake around 7:20

7:30 E (breast feed)

9:00 S (sometimes only 45, sometimes 1.5 hrs)

11:00 or 11:30, depending on last nap E (breast feed)

12:30 S (this is usually 1.5)

2:30 or 3:00 E (breast feed)

4:00 or 4:30 S (catnap)

around 5:30 E (about 2 tbls. of runny rice cereal)

6:30 Bath, jammies, breast feed and bed by 7 or so.  I feed her just before sleep, but she is very awake when I put her in her crib.  Is able to fall asleep on her own at bed and naps.

10:15 DF (She doesn't take much here.)

Was sleeping until 4 or 5, waking for good feed, then back to sleep.
Usually if she wakes before, I would let her fuss a little and she would go back off. Last night she woke at 2, 3, and 5.

Could adding the cereal at 5pm be causing her to wake?  I read somewhere on here that too many feedings during the day can cause night wakings.

Thanks for any advice!
Jessica

I think it might be developmental, is she rolling, or just learning to roll?

The cereal might be a bit of a problem, but you aren't giving much, my advice would be offer that after the 11am feed rather than the evening, so if it is upsetting her little tummy, it is more likely to upset day sleep than night. Or just stop it for a few weeks & see what happens.

Ahh yes.  Didn't even think about that :?   She is moving all over in her crib and is beginning to arch her back, breaking out of her swaddle.  Last night I found her twice with her feet out of the swaddle and sticking through the bars on her crib.   She hasn't rolled during the day yet, but I bet she's practicing!  I think I may go ahead and wait on the cereal a little longer as I noticed a rash and lots of spit up today.  Could be an allergy? Or maybe something I ate. (we bf)

Thanks for your help!

Hi Jessica.
I agree with Kate - try moving the cereal feeding to earlier in the day. The rice is supposed to be easiest on their tummies but can still bother some LO's.
Also, maybe try breast feeding her, then wait an hour, then give her the cereal. I read that on a few posts on this site and it seems to work for people.
Good luck!
