how much formula?
« on: October 18, 2005, 04:47:55 am »
I have a 6 1/2 week old son and he is eating about 6 oz. of formula every feeding.  It seems like he is getting enough calories and still waking at night to fee.  I did the Easy routine with my daughter and she slept 10:00-7:00 at 7 weeks while eating a lot less formula. how can i drop the middle of the night feed for him?  I tried the paci thing and it didn't go over very well.  :)  Also, should i cluster and dreamfeed or is it too early?

6 1/2 weeks is very young and i woudl not expect a baby that young to give up night feeds yet (obviously a binus if you are so lucky  ).  i know how easy it is to compare your 2 children's situations because it is your only frame of reference, but i feel i have to give you a little unsolicited advice:   you will drive yourself crazy if you base everythign for your son against whatever you experienced with your daughter.  no 2 children are going to give you the exact same experience.  it is great that she slept through that early, but if your son takes a lot longer i hope you will feed him when he wakes in the night.

it's not too early for cluster and dream feeds and that can probably help you a bit.

good luck

thanks for the advice.  I don't expect him to sleep through the night, but just give up the 2 am feeding.  :)  I tried cluster feeding and a dream feed and i think he liked it.  He slept from 11:00 -4 am.  I am very happy with that!  I'll take 5 hours anyday!!I just remember reading from Tracy's book that since he weighs more than 10 pounds(almost 12) that he really didn't need the middle of the night feed excpet for oral stimulation.  5 hours i am thrilled with.  :)))  I know i shouldn't compare, but she is the only baby i have ever really been around.  she is quite different than my ds in so many ways it is scary.  :))))
