Playtex VentAire Bottles?
« on: October 19, 2005, 13:15:05 pm »
Does anyone have experience with these? I am testing them out to see if they work better for Marisa's reflux and thickened feeds. However, they say NOT to use an electric warmer to warm. Does anyone know why? This is how I usually warm all our bottles...

I've never used an electric warmer myself but I would think maybe they are hotter than the warm water recommended to warm these bottles. I use these bottles and they have a small ?latex? piece that you push into the bottom plastic cap that you screw onto the bottle and maybe the warmer is too hot for that piece. Sorry if my description of the pieces is not clear, don't know the names for them. Just a guess anyway. You also have to loosen the top cap as you are warming to let air escape while the liquid warms up. Anyhow, I use these all the time and love them.

Thx. So you have to warm in a pot or cup of warm water? How long does it take to warm this way? Is it a problem for overnight feedings - taking too long to warm?

My bottle warmer (Avent Express) has three settings for different levels of heat. Maybe the #1 setting would be low enough?

It does take a few minutes to warm so the middle of the night may be a pain. When I stopped bf the night feedings were long gone so I'm sure the lo will get a little anxious waiting. In the day the only feeding that he gets a little worked up is when he wakes first thing in the morning. Anyway, all I do is boil water in the kettle, then pour the hot water into a tall container and stand the bottle in it and let it warm. Takes a few minutes and the only thing is if you shake the milk in the bottle that will cause bubbles and give gas. The instructions recommend mixing in a different container and then pouring into the bottle. Not sure how to work that out though. I have never used an electric warmer so I don't know about the lowest setting. Maybe you can judge that, if it doesn't get any hotter than just-boiled water it might be ok. Good luck!
