Baby in own room
« on: October 19, 2005, 16:26:33 pm »
I was wondering what would be the right age for a baby to go into their own room.

My lo is now 14 weeks, and I was thinking of putting him in his own room, purely cause he is a noisy sleeper.  He sleeps right through the night and wakes up around 6am for play and amuses himself until 7am when his bottle is due.

I do have baby monitors, but was wondering if this is too young to put him in his own room, which is right next door to ours.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,

We moved our ds into his own room at 8weeks.  I found that we were all waking each other up when we moved around.  He adjusted fine to it, as he was napping in there during the day.  The first few nights, I practically slept with the monitor next to my ear!!

Good luck!
Carrie

Hi Carrie,

Thanks for your reply.

I think I am going to try and move him into his own room over the weekend.  If it does not work out, I can always move him back - but will see how it goes.

Thanks for your advice.

Regards

Mine was moved to her own room as soon as she started sleeping through the night at about 10 weeks; it was great as I could ignore her little wimpers so learned how to settle herself better on her own.

Hi, my DS has been in his own room since he was 4 weeks and is now 12 weeks. I had the monitor on at night next to my head for a while but please, do consider turning it off at night. DS is across the hall from me and believe me, I can hear evrything I need to without the monitor amplifying every little baby sound. We both sleep better because of it. He has only been waking once a night for a feed and has slept through a couple of times. It is a big independant step for both of you, so much, much luck and hugs but I'm sure bub will do fine. :)
Cheers, Jo

Thank you all for your replies.

Joanne - I know what you mean - I think I am going to have my ear glued to the monitor - especially for the first few days, but am sure that it will all work out.  Thanks for your kind words

We moved our ds at 12 weeks.  I usually only use the monitor during the day because every little noise is amplified.  My bedroom is right beside his so we just sleep with our doors open.  I trust that you will hear your baby when they need you.  Hope this helps.

We moved DD to her room when she was a week-and-a-half old. Her little noises were waking us up too much, and it was driving we crazy, even though she was still so new. Her room is also right next door. We've also never used our baby monitor. We sleep with both doors open and can hear everything - I hear her stir in the morning when she wakes. Even if both doors happen to be closed, she can still wake me from the deepest sleep with not that loud a noise.
