Could 6th Mo Old Actually be Hungry??
« on: October 25, 2005, 14:13:24 pm »
My 6th month old recently started wakening in the middle of the night after months of sleeping through the night.  Of course I was convinced that she probably was not hungry and tried several times to put her back to sleep on her own using several methods.  The only thing that has worked was giving her a bottle which she sucked down in minutes.  I put her back in her crib fully awake and she falls to sleep shortly afterwards.  So could she just simply be hungry and is it really so bad to feed her at these times even though it is in the middle of the night?

at or around 6 months they hit a growth spurt. sounds like that`s what your lo`s done if she`s sucking back the bottle. so yes go ahead and feed her in the night, and try to up her food during the day (have you started solids?...maybe start or add in more). growth spurts only last a few days normally, and then things should settle down again....

Thanks for the info.  Unfortunately this "growth spurt" has been happening for about a week and a half so I'm not sure we can consider it a growth spurt, right?  Or can I?  -  Sleepy Mommy Here.

We went through that stage at that age. Waking up at night was my sign to up solids.

So, feed her when she wakes up, and up her solids, or give her more caloric food at the dinner time: bananas, sweet potato, etc.

Yes can be considered a growth spurt... the one around 6mo can go for a whole month according to some literature I read :(
But it could also be developmental. keep consistent & offer plenty of foods
