Fitting Solids into Schedule
« on: November 11, 2005, 14:54:20 pm »
Good Morning,

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to fit in solids into the current schedule we are on.  I have introduced carrots, sweet potatoes, squash and prunes at lunch with cereal, but I was wondering if I should do something different.

Here's our current schedule:

7:00 wake and 7 oz bottle
8:15 2 oz prune juice
9:00 nap
11:00 wake and 7 oz bottle
12:15 - 2 tbsp cereal and 2 tbsp of veg
1:00 nap
3:00 - 7 oz bottle
5:00 nap
5:30 5 oz bottle
7:15 - 2 tbsp cereal
8:00 - 7-8 oz bottle

I was thinking of adding the cereal with his morning juice and giving him the fruit at lunch and veggie at 5:30 with his bottle and leaving the cereal at 7:15.  Does this make sense - or does anyone have a better solution?

He so wants to eat - he watches us eat everything and starts sucking his lips (so cute).

Thanks for your suggestions - appreciate it:)

Fitting Solids into Schedule

Hi DN. How old is your LO and how long has he been on solids?
My DD is 6.5 months and on a 4 hour EASY as well.
Her schedule as far as eating goes something like this:

7 am - cereal and fruit
then bottle (takes between 6-8 oz.)

11 am - cereal and veggies
then bottle (takes between 6-8 oz.)

3 pm - 8 oz bottle

6:30 pm - cereal and veggies or fruit (depends on what I have in fridge)
then bottle (usually takes all 8 oz.)

I questioned her pediatrician as to how to feed solids (ie. before bottle or after) and she said either way is fine. She said it was OK to give solids immediately before bottle and if she takes less formula at this age that is perfectly fine since we would want to be dropping 1 bottle feed by 9 months anyways.
HTH!

My baby will be 7 months next week and this is how we are fitting in solids doing the 4 hour feeds.

7am - 6 oz bottle then food (2-3 oz of cereal and fruit) so he is finished by about 7:30 or a little later depending on how fast he eats

11am - 4 - 6 oz bottle then 2-3 oz veggies (sometimes add yogurt)

3pm - 6 oz bottle

6pm - 2-3 oz veggies
get ready for bed, then
7pm 4-6 oz bottle

If I don't give him his bottle first, he will hardly drink any of it. Also, the evening feeding just works better splitting it up because he gets very tired close to bed time. I was worried that he isn't drinking as much formula, but his pediatrician said that for him, anywhere between 18 and 25 oz is good. I trust my baby knows how much he needs. Also, I was giving him cereal/rice in the evening but he started becoming very constipated and rice is a known culpret, so I cut it down to once a day and he eats prunes a few times a week.

Hope this helps
