breathing problems while sleeping/ at night

Hi.  My son Brandon is almost 10 weeks old now.  Ever since he was 2 weeks old he has had truble breathing clearly at night.  Durring the day he is almost always breathing quietly, normally.  He is so congested that he wakes him self up trying to breath.  And it sounds like he can barly breath at that.  His pediatrition says that it is normal and that he should grow out of it. We have tried placing him in many different sleeping positions and none have proven to be sure ways to stop the problem.  Durring labor he was exposed to his muconium.  I am very worried about this, and can't even begin to try to place him in his own room/crib to sleep for fear that he might stop breathing.  I am going to try and get an appointment for him to see an eyes, nose and throat specialist.  Does anyone out there have any experience with this, from  their own children or children that they have cared for?  Any help would great.

Have you propped the mattress up.
You need to fold a cot blanket a few times and place under the head end of moses basket, basinette,or cot.
Also a humidifier may help.We had this problem with Emily and the slightly raised mattress helped.
She always slept on her stomach though,so I don't know if that helped.
You can buy mats that go under the mattress to alarm you if they stop breathing.May ensure you get a good night sleep when lo goes in own room.
