waking at 4am please help!!
« on: November 17, 2005, 13:18:05 pm »
My 5 1/2 month old is waking at 4 am daily give or take a 1/2 hour. I have done wake to sleep at 3:30 like Tracy says to do in her book and she is still getting up. I tried to give her a dream feed at 9:30 last night and she did not even take an ounce. sometimes she falls asleep before finishing her bottle at 7pm so wondering if I should feed her. Today I did pu/pd and she still stayed up. an hour later I gave her a bottle and she ate a few ounces and fell asleep. she usually eats the whole bottle at 4, but I think she was so tired from doing pu/pd she fell asleep.

what do I do at this age if she is waking up at this time???? I have tried everything.

Have you tried a dream feed at a later time, say maybe 10:30pm. A dreamfeed at 9 or so could be a little too close to the bedtime feed, maybe she just isn't hungry by 9.
Like I said try a later df, give it maybe a week or so for it to click in with her, it may help.
Let me know if you need more ideas.

It has always helped if I put Tori to bed 30 min early to get her to sleep longer in the mornings.  Sounds backwards huh?!  I don't know if you could move bedtime to 6:30pm but that is when my dd goes to bed and she does well most of the time.

Jacki - I am thinking about moving beditime up to 6:30pm too.  Right now it is 7 and DS is waking up a bit early (today it was 5:45 - I left him in to play for an hour and never fell back to sleep  - sometimes he does though so you never know).

My q though - what time is your LO getting up now with the earlier bedtime on the front end?

My ds is doing the same thing!!  When he was 3 months he started sleeping from 7 to 7 and I thought I had it made!!  And noe he's almost 5 months and for the past 3 weeks he'll get up at 4 and sometimes he'll get up at 2 AND 4!!   :?

I tried wake to sleep.....it didn't work
I tried an 11 dreamfeed.....it didn't work
I tried a sooner bedtime.....it didn't work

The only things I know are these, one day we were running errands and I misread my watch and fed him 3 hours after the prior feed, and that night he slept through becuase he got an extra feed.  And he's rolling over lots and wakes up furious when he's gotten himself in a corner, BUT when I put him in a wedge he still wriggles out of it!!

He's a breastfed baby and I  refuse to give him formula.  He starts solids next week, but I'm so afraid it will only make matters worse!

The ped told me to leave him in his crib crying whch I will absolutely not do.

Ugh.....I'm at my wits end!!!
