What routine should my 9 month old baby be in?
« on: December 08, 2005, 16:38:40 pm »
My nine month old daughter is still on the same routine as she was on when she was about 6 months old.  At the moment, her routine is:

7am - wake up and 6oz bottle

8am - cereal - usually 2 tablespoons of muesli mixed with 3 oz of formula

9am - sleep

11.15am - 6oz bottle

12.30pm - lunch - about 3 tablespoons

1pm - sleep

3pm- 6oz bottle

4.30pm - tea - about 3 tablespoons

6.15pm - 6oz bottle

7pm - bath and book

7.30pm - sleep

Should I be feeding her more than I am?
Should I be trying to cut down on her naps?
Should I be leaving more time between her feeds?

HELP  :!:  :!:  :!:  :!:

Also, if I am cooking her pasta, can I add salt to the water that the pasta is getting cooked in?????  Slightly confused!!!!   :?

If you and your lo are happy, I wouldnt try to do anything to your routine!!

If you think she is not eating enough solids, the only thing I would suggest is dropping the 11:15am bottle which could encourage her to eat more at lunch - you could always bring lunch forward if she gets hungry earlier

Re:naps - if your lo is still sleeping well at night as well as having 2 naps then she obviously needs the sleep so why change anything and risk making her sleep worse.

Re: feeds - they also seem fine to me and must be working out ok as your lo is feeding well and I assume is sleeping through the night. Your timings are pretty similar to my dd's at that age although she didnt have the mid-morning bottle any more:

7am - bottle
8am - breakfast
9am - nap
11.30am - lunch
12.30pm - nap
2.30pm - bottle
5pm - dinner
6.30pm - bottle then bath
7.30pm - sleep

Sometimes we look for problems when none exist - just do what makes both of you happy and you wont go far wrong.

p.s. At that age we didnt add salt to cooking water. If we wanted pasta ourselves we cooked it seperately as they shouldnt have very much salt at all at that age (the maximum is 1g per day up till 1 year old).

Honestly, your routine looks great! Lucky you! If she's happy and thriving, then I wouldn't change a thing. Recommended formula intake is around 26-32 oz, so she's getting exactly the right amount. We never added salt to any of Tyler's food, it just isn't necessary. We sometimes do the same thing as Seona...if we're making pasta, we cook ours separately or just don't add salt to anyone's. HTH!

Thanks for your advice - it has really put my mind at ease!  I think we will continue as we are doing as she does seem happy enough.  :D

Ever the neurotic mother!
