I have been doing pat/shh, pu/pd for six weeks now weaning my 6 mo, 1wk old from nursing whenever he wants at night. We have been making slow progress, and although he continues to wake several times a night he is soothed often times by the binky, a swaddle or pats and rubs, and I don't even have to pick him up.
He goes to bed between 7:30-8:00pm,
wakes after 45 mins, I soothe back to sleep
wakes after 1 hour, I soothe back to sleep,
sleeps until 11:00.
I have been trying to push his feeding until midnight, but sometimes that doesn't work.
Up at 3:00
Up at 5:30
Up for the day at 7:30 - 8:00am
The latest dilemma is that he wakes a 3:00am every night and cries and cries and cries. It's been two hours of crying every night at that time for the past four days. He's been on solid food consistently at 5:00pm for the past week, he's teething, and getting ready to crawl - which I can understand all of these are developmental milestones that would impact sleep, but the same time every night seems like more of a pattern. What is extremely frustrating is that he just ends up crying until it's a feed time, so I feel like I'm giving him the message that I'm giving in to his crying. Is he reacting to the solid food? If so, why only at 3:00 am?
I am so tired and frustrated. I haven't gotten more than a three hour block of sleep since he was born. I'm really struggling with PPD, and I was hoping that addressing sleep issues and getting my son to sleep better would help - but there's not much sleeping going on.
Please, please I would really appreciate your advice, assistance, moral support. We're traveling for the Holidays, and I thought we would be more solidified in bedtime. Please help, Yvette
