Weight: 5-6 1/2 Pounds
Eat How long: 30-40 minutes
Activity How long: 5-10 minutes at first; 20 minutes at 6 1/2 lb., gradually extend time to 45 when they are around 7 lb.
Sleep: How long: 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hours
How often: Routine repeats every 2 hours during the day, until baby weighs 6 1/2 lb., at which point you can switch to an every-3-hour plan. At first these babies can only go 4 hours at night without eating.
Weight: 6 1/2-8 Pounds
Eat: How long: 25-40 minutes
Activity: How long: 20-45 minutes (includes diapering, dressing, and, once a day, a bath)
Sleep: 1 1/2 - 2 hours
How often: Routine repeats every 2 1/2-3 hours (for babies on the lower end of average) during the day; 4- to 5-hour stretches at night in the first 6 weeks, by which time you should be working at cutting out the 1 or 2 a.m. feed.
Weight: Over 8 Pounds
Eat: How long: 25-35 minutes
Activity: How long: 20-45 minutes (includes diapering, dressing, and, once a day, a bath)
Sleep: How long: 1 1/2 - hours
How often: Routine repeats every 3 hours during the day. By 6 weeks, these babies can generally cut out the 1 or 2 a.m. feed and will do a 5- or 6-hour stretch from 11 to 4 or 5 a.m.
