Four hour routine. When should I change?
« on: December 29, 2005, 18:30:44 pm »
My LO is 5 1/2 months and on the following (since he was 3 1/2 months old)

7am Milk
7am - 9am Activity
9am -11 am Sleep (sometimes only 1 1/2 hours)
11am Milk and solids
11am - 1pm Activity
1pm - 3pm Sleep (sometimes only 1 1/2 hours)
3pm Milk and solids
3pm - 5pm Activity
5pm - 5.45 Sleep
5.45 - 7 Activity
7pm Milk and then bed

At some point I'll need to introduce a third meal. At some point this routine will be 'too young' for him according to Tracy's books but what will change?? Will he simply need less sleep or will I have to adjust his food times? I know all babies are different but there must be some general trend.

Hello!  :D

Looks like a great schedule.  :D

It looks like you are already currently on a 4 hr schedule....I basically kept that schedule except eventually you will eliminate the last nap and and maybe offer dinner at around 5:30-6:00 and then the sippy/bottle before bed (acts as a top up or snack).  I also give zoe the sippy as a snack in the AM and incorporate a solid snack in the afternoon. (this was probably around 7months)

Her nap times look great - as they get older they only need 2-3 hours a day (but if you get more, even better  ).

HTH  :D

Thanks. I'll keep him on this and see what happens. I think he will naturally drop the 5pm sleep as he will seem less tired. At the moment, he definitely needs it.
