Amount of Bottles for a 5 month old?
« on: December 31, 2005, 04:28:05 am »
I would like to hear from people with babies around 5 months old to find out how many bottles they are having and how much in each bottle? My baby is having 4 bottles a day and 2 solid meals. However one of her day bottles she has around 100mls if that and the others are 200mls and i want to cut it out and just add that 100mls to her other bottles.

Hello  :D
My dd was having 4 bottles at 5 months too - and probably around the same amount of solids.  It's late, so I am too lazy to convert the amounts.....can you post a routine/schedule too?

At the moment it looks like this:

7am - Wake Bottle 200mls
8am - Fruit and cereal
9am - Sleep
11am - Wake
11.30am - Bottle (only has 100mls at the most)
12.15 - Veges and cereal
1pm - Sleep
3pm - Bottle
4.30pm- Sleep 45 mins
6pm - Bath
6.30pm - Bottle 200mls (doesn't always drink fusses over this)
7.15pm - Sleep till the morning

I am thinking of pushing out her bottle to 12pm and dropping the 3pm bottle and just add the extra 100mls she has with the 4th bottle into her other bottles.
I am also going to start to extend her awake time to 2.5hrs and dropping the cat nap in the afternoon as she fights this sleep.

Amount of Bottles for a 5 month old?

My ds is 6 months old but he is still eating/drinking the same amount as he was when he was 5 months old so maybe this will help.  Some of the other mommies suggested to me when I was struggling to get him to sleep through the night, that he might need more nourishment during the day.  So I added 2 oz of formula and an extra serving of solids and he now sleeps for about 8-10 hours in a row (at night).

He gets 3 bottles of 6 oz (sorry, not sure of the conversion amount) and his final bottle before bed time is 8 oz.  4 bottles total.  He does not get a dream feed.  So he is getting 26 oz of formula per day.

He also eats 3 servings of solids a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Hope this helps!  Good luck  :)

Hi there it's so nice that I found this thread I have soo many questions as I'm in a right pickle with my ds and don't know whats the right thing to do :? .

DH and I are soo tired as we wake up twice a night still   to feed DS, he has never slept through since the day he was born. He is 8.5 kilo's and has been on solids for three weeks in the hope that maybe he would sleep through but still no joy. I recently added an extra meal and even a few spoons of baby rice before bed but still no change.  Heres our scedual.

E- 8am-6oz
9.30- fruit and cereal (2 icecubes fruit equal amount of cereal with milk)

E-12, 5-6oz
    1,- veggies (4 ice cubes)

E-4, 4-6oz

A-7/7.30 bath
E-7.30/8pm, 7oz and 2 lrg scoops babyrice
S-7.45/8pm bed

E-12 ish 6oz
E-4amish 6oz

We're still battleing occasionally with 45 min naps so S time is not always easy to predict. Also this routine is 'usually' how we do things but again depends on naps.

Any ideas why is he still waking at night? I've tried different methods to cut down on night feeds but DS is having none of it and wakes constantly throughout the night unless he's fed.  I've been carefull not to feed him too much solids during the day so he would still drink his milk as many people say this is most important at his age.  I'm very puzzled some advice would be great. How much solids are you feeding your LO's?
