Won't take dreamfeed
« on: January 01, 2006, 22:13:50 pm »
I want to start a dreamfeed with my 10 week old. Last night, she went to bed at 8:00. I tried to dreamfeed at 11:00. She wouldn't wake up to take it. She would take the bottle, but not suck. I didn't want to wake her completely, so put her back in bed. She woke on her on at 12:30. I would love any advice on how to get her to take the df without waking her completely. Thanks!

you can touch/stroke the teat to her lips to try to get her to open and take the bottle.

Dh always did Df and he said that worked a lot and if it really was not wrking he would put her down and try again in 15 min to try to catch her in a different stage of her sleep cycle (that is the trick to success) so tonight try it at 10pm and if that is not successful try every 15-20 min until you find the right point in her sleep cycle.

i woudl also not worry too much about rousing her for the feed - if she wakes up she will most likely fall back to sleep during the feed, then you can gently burp her or not and put back to bed. it is a learnign process and might take a week to figure out what works best for her.

Good luck

I had one who took the dreamfeed like a champ until 8 months and now I have a daughter who took it for a bit and then began waking and thereby missing the point.  I got her through the night by increasing her ounces per feed, but that was at 4 months.

Thanks for replying. :) We ended up giving up on the dreamfeed. I usually go to bed at 9:30, so it was hard to stay up for it.  :) Lately, she has been sleeping 11 hours at night with one feed in the middle. She is starting to take more during the day, so I think this feed will be gone soon. At  least I hope so.

We've never been able to do the dreamfeed.   Ben either wouldn't take it, or it would screw up the rest of our night.   So we gave up.

I wasn't getting my DD to do a dreamfeed after 3 hours either.. last night I tried it at 2 hours and after a couple of minutes of teasing with my nipple she went for it.. I expressed some breast milk onto the tip to tempt her which might help.
