Lumps in breast after stopping BF
« on: January 19, 2006, 19:44:05 pm »
Hi!

I stopped BF two weeks ago, dropping the last two feeds within a few days of each other.  I have not had too much engorgement although my breasts have been a bit sore, however I have noticed several small hard lumps around my nipples.  They are not sore or painful at all.  I have been to the doctor and he has advised to wait until after my period when he will check them again.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Is this common when stopping BF?  What could the lumps be? :(

It could be a plugged milk duct, although they are usually a little harder in the breast.

I noticed after we weaned that my breasts still have a liquid coming from them, it isn't really "milk" and they also tingle sometimes like a letdown. This too shall pass!

I am still breastfeeding but from only one breast. The other one from which my dd doesn't nurse has a lump since after dd stopped nursing from it. I had it checked and scanned by my doctor who is also a specialist on breast cancer but he said not to worry about it. That's just to say that it is not uncommon to have a lump there but I would always make sure it is nothing serious.Go and see your doctor after your period.
