trying to increase milk supply...
« on: January 23, 2006, 19:34:06 pm »
Hi!  I'm trying to increase my milk supply in order to pump for some bottle feeds and freeze some milk as well.  My supply has been decreasing and I'm having a hard time getting even one bottle pumped for the day.  I pump one hour after my morning feed, but I'm not producing milk like I once was.  Any suggestions?  Is this normal?  I use to be able to pump in the morning and have a bottle for night feeding.  Now, I'm lucky to get 2 ounces from both breasts.  How do I increase my milk?

have u gotten your period yet?? it may have to do with your cycle and hormonal changes but after u get it, it will all go back to normal..til next month.  could be stress as well, or not getting enough sleep...  my advice is just keep pumping and drinking lots of water and it should be back to normal within a couple of days.

Hello,

I read up on increasing you milk supply yesterday, as its something I worry about every now and then.  I looked at http://www.breastfeeding.com.
I have also looked at this page http://www.lalecheleague.org/FAQ/pumpwork.html or search on google.com.

I have been quite lucky with expressing and the best time was when I was sat next to my husband and Charlotte whilst they were being mega cute....I filled a bottle in record timing.  My main advice would be to be relaxed, not to rush and have baby or pictures to look at.  Sometimes it is quite slow and takes a while so I wait a minute and try and get more comfortable.

Good luck, hope this helps a bit.

Hi,
I find it my milk supply is really sensitive to what I eat, and if I make a conscious effort to eat more, and eat more often, the supply goes up - especially, funnily enough, if I eat lots of pasta and cheese!
