Can you freeze......
« on: January 29, 2006, 16:42:45 pm »
Can you freeze avacados, pears, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes?  Like in the ice cube trays.

Just wondering I have quite a few and would like to make some food for Caeden......

Thanks!
Jen

I have frozen all of these, except avacados(we haven't tried them yet) and we have had no problems, except I was finding the fruit purees quite runny when they had defrosted, but now I mash instead of puree so they are a bit thicker.

I froze avacodoes within a recipes last week successfully. they were in chunks and just ended up a bit mushier, but still green and nice to eat.

I freeze pears and avocados quite frequently.  I also find that they will be runny after you thaw them so I use my food chopper rather than a blender.  There is a book called Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron (Tracey recommends it in her book) and it tells you how to buy/prepare/cook/ and freeze every fruit/veg that you can think of.  It also has some delicious recipes in it for toddler type foods!  I use mine all the time!

I freeze avocados and bananas all the time as they are Maisie's fave!!  They don't go runny or anything.....
I found sweet potatoes to go a bit runny.....but when I defrost i drain off some of the water before I stir it up.

I froze avocados with a squeeze of lemon juice as apparently this helps to maintain that green colour instead of them going brown.
