what do you do when they arent crying but wont go to sleep?
« on: January 30, 2006, 18:26:54 pm »
Hi...i have had other posts on here about bedtime horrors.I am trying pu/pd but the problem is im not sure what to do when he isnt crying but wont got to sleep.Im not sure where i should post this question even!!!

If jakob cries out/screams as he is at bedtime at the moment i can do pu/pd.However once hes picked up he soothes and i lay him back down.He coos and smiles.I stay for a bit and make sure hes ok then leave. Is this right? Do i only use pu/pd if he is still crying? Also what do i do when i leave and he doesnt go to sleep but also doesnt cry or scream out? He can lay there for ages awake before crying again....do i leave him be?????

Basically i dont get when to use pu/pd and what to do when he wont go to sleep but isnt crying (pat/shush stopped working at 4 months with jakob,he hates it now)

can anyone advice me please???

Kirsty :)

you are correct - pu/pd is for when he's crying.

if he's just lying there looking aorund, i'd leave him to it.  he may just drift off & surprise you!   :D

Yup, leave him.  Also - my DD (and my sister actually) both sometimes LOOK awake, and are actually asleep.  Very strange.  But, if he's happy, let him be, I reckon.

I have the same problem with my 3.5month old dd -Today I put he in her crib and she laughed and played for about 45minutes before her first cry......then I went in and shushed her and she fell asleep in about 10 minutes. The concern I have is that she had been up by that time for about 2.5 hours in total.....does this eventually get shorter or will it always take this long????
