Scared of the dark/going to bed
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:06:44 am »

Hello

I don't know if any of you have experience of this, my DD is 21 months almost.  She has been a good sleeper, has a nap in the day, and is pretty content with life.

Just this week though (after a weekend at grandmas) she's started to get scared when we mentioned bedtime.  She starts to cry and clings for dear life.  Her normal bed routine, is:-

6.15 Bath for 20-30 minutes (which she usually loves)
6.45 Dry and massage/calm down
Then milk
Read a book
Sing her nite nite song and put down for bed

She has  night light and black out curtains and some music playign in the background (always has).

It's almost like she's scared of being in bed/is having nightmares, but she's not staying in the bath (she's also scared of the plug now) for long, as she knows that bed time is comeing, and trying to calm her down is impossible.  She just mentioned the dark yesetrday, just as it got to twilight, and was upset!

What we're trying is putting her down, reassuring her that we're there and then just sitting on the floor, out of reach, until she goes to sleep (which took 1 1/2 hours the other night).  She then woke scared at 12.30 and didn't get to sleep for 3 hours.

Any ideas!?

Thank you
Andrea

Were you with her during the stay at grandma's?
