Well.... I'm beginning to implement 4 hour EASY with Heather and so far she's doing well.  She is not eating any more, though, as I'd hoped.  After no bottle all night she still only drank 3 ounces this morning!

In Tracy's third book, I was reading about switching to the sippy cup and she commented that a baby will not allow him/herself to starve..... so, since Heather seems otherwise healthy, I'm going to try and remind myself of that as she refuses to finish her bottles and not push the issue with her.

I may try and take her to the doctor at five months, though, just to have her weight checked.

Thanks for the tip that babies will not starve themselves, although the worry of Amelie not eating has certainly caused me to drop a few pounds

Just wanted to say you all are not alone :) I have the same problem too! My ds is 4 months old & weighs 12 lbs (although he was sick & in ER for a week).  He has never wanted to eat much - when I was breastfeeding I could only get him to eat for about 5 minutes - now that I bottle feed, he takes about 2 ounces every 2-4 hours...I can never get him to eat more.  Our Dr. recommended we start rice cereal & soon after fruit.  We started rice cereal & it gave him horrible gas pains...does that eventually go away? He seems to like the taste though & has fun with the spoon :) I know someone said they put rice cereal in every bottle...how long did it take you to get to the point that you added it in every bottle? The dr. said for us to only offer it to him 1 or 2 x daily, but he does like the taste so I was hoping to increase that - just didnt' want to do it too fast.

I used to put rice cereal in Heather's bottle, but we had a lot of trouble with the nipple getting clogged, even after trying to enlarge it..... so, then we started mixing cereal with formula & feeding it to her with a spoon.  She really seems to like it.  One of the moderators told me that I might be able to get her to drink more if I cut back on her solids, so I'm only giving her one bowl of cereal each day.

We've been working on the 4 hour EASY with Heather for a couple of days now.  She only drank 13 ounces all day yesterday (including the cereal).  Today, though, she's already had 9 ounces so far.....

Also, Kezia, wrote that there's a thicker formula that you can buy, that has rice in it already.  I'm in the US and have found that Enfamil sellls one called A.R., which I'm going to try.

Good luck!

jessica... please try the AR formula and don't thicken your los formula with rice cereal... my ped... says it does something to the calcium in the formula and they don't benefit from it as much...

Thanks for the advice!  I'm amazed by how many different things we all hear from our doctors.  Mine said to put cereal in the bottle..... but it was just too thick and messy.  We're using the AR formula and, although, it's thick and clumpy, my daughter seems to be doing well with it and spitting up a bit less.
