Changing to sippy cups
« on: February 16, 2006, 16:02:17 pm »
Hi,

I am hoping someone will be able to help me. Not sure if this question belongs here, but if it doesn't, moderators, please feel free to move it to the appropriate place.

I am trying to get rid of my lo's bottle, and in that she seems to be giving up milk. She was drinking about 16-20 oz before the switch, but now it is down to maybe 10 oz, if I'm lucky. She would still take the sippy cup in the morning(which is 8 oz) with a little bit of coaxing (please, try it once, it is milk, I promise), but thereafter, the evening milk is completely no no, no matter how hard I try. Anyone out there having gone thru' the same thing? Should I just keep trying, and it'll happen?

Please help, I don't want her to give up milk so soon.

Thank you,

Sumita

My LO thinks sippy cups are toys so I'm struggling too - he's nearly 11 months old! I look forward to any advice people offer...!

Hey I hope I can help you. I have a 7 month old and she was breastfed exclusively for 5 months, She wouldn't take a bottle so I tried her on a sippy cup. Well she didnt want to drink out of that either. I found a sippy cup with a straw(the straw has a built in valve so milk dosent come out to fast) I tried that and she drank out of it. Well the first two times she didnt swallow and the milk went all over but she got the hang of it and now drinks from it all the time!! :)

GOOD LUCK ;)

Until your LO gets the hang of just drinking from the cup have you thought of using milk in other foods, such as mashed potatoes and cereal. Also, when I was weaning from the bottle, I was told to up the cheese and yogurt content of her diet. Just a thought!

we had the same problem, it is hard not to worry about it but really there is nothing you can do as i found out, we increased cheese and yogurt, dd loved the bottle that i drink you of, i am a water junkie and have always sucked on a bottle so i gave her a small version of this, here in australia you get kids juices in them, i just drink the juice and then use the bottle for dd and it worked a treat, once she was drinking her morning milk i then (weeks and weeks later) introduced the afternoon bottle, all the very best
