9 months, wide awake at 3.30am
« on: February 17, 2006, 08:47:09 am »
Please advise!!!! im getting so tired i just dont know what to do.
my little one was getting towards sleeping through the night. she has always woken up for a feed but the time was getting longer and longer, (7 hours since last feed). Last week she cut her first tooth and as you imagine she had a terrible few nights crying in her sleep and waking up a lot.  She still seems to be in some pain with her teeth, but now she wakes up after 5 hours for a feed (12 or 1am) and then wakes again around 3 or 4am,and is wide awake .  she usually sleeps about 7.30pm, so 4am was the time she USED to wake for the feed, now she just is wide awake, crying or making lots of noise in the cot. So i put her in my bed for most of that 2 hours until she was tired enough. i tried to get her back to sleep but she just couldnt settle, so i gave her more milk and then she slept. She is in our room as we only have a one bedroom flat, and she never just settles back to sleep anymore, she just cries. so no-one gets any sleep. last night it was 3.30am-5.30am. Im getting more and more exhausted.

could this be growth spurt ( she does have a bigger appetite in the day at the mo, and where she had dropped the lunchtime bottle, now wants it again), or is this just plain accidental parenting. i wouldnt be surprised if it was the second but im too tired to even try anymore P.U/P.D.  She did fall asleep in her cot last night with my hand on her back, but i nearly gave up and rocked her. i cant even remember what it is like to have a full nights sleep - its been 9 months.

My first thought having an almost 9mo & having been there before is Developmental, but also growth spurt & probably more teeth on the way.

Try offering more food/milk in the day.

Also she may be ready to extend her awake time, I know that my ds now can do around 3.5-4 hours for the last awake time & that actually helps his night sleep... on the flip side he does 2- 2.5 in the AM & 2.75 -3 in the middle of the day most of the time, so you may need to fiddle around with the day routine a bit.
