What foods are known to cause tummy upset, if any?
« on: February 17, 2006, 15:16:48 pm »
Hi~

I have been introducing new foods to my 6 month old for the last few weeks and everything seems fine so far, but recently she has been up alot at night and I don't know what is bothering her, if anyhting!?
Are there certain foods that may be causing her gas or some other discomfort?
Evening foods so far: Pears, sweet potato and apricots.
Should i give her oatmeal only at night to ensure a comfortable sleep?

THanks!

i think it pretty much varies from lo to lo.  some foods that have no effect on one is horrible for another...have u introduced something new that may not sit well with lo.  from what i know if it causes stomach aches it may be an allergy...i know too many prunes cause excessive gas firsthand  :-\ :-[ but thankfully dd has been ok with most other foods and i have introduced alot by this point.  are u feeding jars or homemade??  i know my lo has a problem digesting grains and that gives her terrible gas...barley and oatmeal were both ok for about a week and then didn't sit well with her either so we just give her fruits and veggies...and now starting some finger foods.

Sweet potato was always the culprit for us. If he had it during the day, he was fine, but if it was for dinner, Tyler would be up all night with gas. We did cereal only at night for awhile until he was older because we didn't want to roll the dice.

Thanks so much for the input!
Funny, last night she had sweet potato and she was up ALL night...
I think i am going to stick to oatmeal in the evenings for a while

How can you tell for sure that a baby has a stomache ache? any signs to look for?
She has been fussy lately and it so hard to pin point what is causing her distress, she may be starting to teeth too...?
THey say getting older is hard, babies are the ones who have it tough!  :)

Sweet potato can cause stomach upset, as can pears and prunes for some. Here is one good link that may help some http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T042600.asp

Also, grains can be good for some - hard for others to digest.

I've heard many people say that pears bothered their lo's, but it never bothered either of mine.  Sweet potatoes were bad news for my son though.  So bad, in fact that I'm not even going to try them with my daughter!

Sweet potatoes here.  Screaming for several hours.  Finally fell asleep in the car.  Big gas attack, big smiles.     ::)

With both my boys, orange food in the evening seemed to upset them ???? so pumpkin, orange sweet potato (white is fine), carrot, peaches, apricots were all food from mid day & not evening. Not sure why but just seems that way.
