Rash on chunky monkey
« on: February 27, 2006, 22:41:05 pm »
My LO, who is loving this eating thing, has got quite a chunky little chin and is getting kind of rashy under his chin and in his 'neck crack' (for lack of a better term.)  He is constantly drooling and dripping food all over there, and I am constantly wiping.  It seems like the skin is never really dries out and he is really rashy now.  Any suggestions to a. stop this, and b. treat the horribly red and bumpy skin???

All fat babies go through this.  ;) My sweet Kaitlyn did. I did something funny to combat the constant wetness, I used liquid powder on her chin. It really worked! I didn't have to worry about her breathing in the dust because it goes on as a liquid. The one I used was made by huggies but I am sure any that is made for baby would be fine.

Stasztk - That is a great idea - I have seen that stuff.  Just today I was thinking that maybe I should try powder.  Then again, I was also lurking on the allergies board - and now I worry that what if it could be allergy based (LO has eczema pretty bad too).  I have not even paid attention to whether or not a certain food could be aggravating it!

Thanks for the great suggestions...

I know that Huggies makes a liquid powder.  I am not sure how it works...I have had some before (for adults) and it goes on like a liquid, but kind of evaporates and leaves the skin dry, like a powder would.
I was at Target yesterday and found a new Johnson and Johnson product called Soothing Naturals Soothe and Protect Balm.  It comes in tiny deodorant-looking tube, smells yummy.  Here is what is says about it...
  Softens dry cheeks and patches
Formulated with a unique blend of pure Vitamin E, olive leaf extract and skin essential minerals
Moisturizes baby's cheeks and lips to help protect against dryness
Good for dry patches anywhere on baby's body
Clinically proven mild and allergy tested, non-comedogenic
  Thoroughly tested by dermatologists
