Just not interested
« on: March 01, 2006, 13:53:08 pm »
My lo has just turned 7 months, and I have been weaning for 5 weeks.  He is just not interested in solids and I wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

He"loves" finger food, well he likes to hold things, and they end up in his mouth, but if I try to give him any baby mush he just ignores it completely or tries to grab the spoon.  If I manage to get some in his mouth he may swallow it, it may just sit in his mouth for ages, or sometimes he uses his hands to get it out !!

I have tried lots of different veg, fruit, breakfast cereal, jars, dried food...... nothing.  I try to give solids pre milk but even when you would think he was starving he takes no interest.

Any ideas?
Many thanks
Ali

I had similar issues with my lo.  I always make sure I give him a spoon or two, therefore his hands are too busy to push away my spoon.

Just give your lo time.  Mine woudl resist and then about 2 weeks ago... bam!  Now he opens his mouth all the time and keeps it shut when it's something he doesn't want.

I think the answer is time, they will eat when they are ready.  But I'm only talking from my experience with my lo who didn't like any food at first either.

I'm having the same issues with my DS.  He just turned 8 months and there are days when he doesn't want any solids at all!  I've tried a variety of fruits and veggies - both freshly made and jarred - and the only thing he'll consistently eat is mashed bananas - and even this isn't all the time.  He does drink quite a bit of BM - about 6 feedings a day - but I make sure that I'm trying solids at least 1 hour after he's had milk.  Any suggestions on getting him more interested in eating solids would be appreciated.

just keep trying - eventually it will click.  have u tried giving lo some of the finger foods and then try getting a few willing bites in? sometimes works for my dd when she's having a non-eating day - she likes to feel like she is in control i think!  ;)
