Eating too little?
« on: March 09, 2006, 21:48:09 pm »
Hi - My ds is 11 weeks old and will only eat about 2-3 oz of formula every three hours or so.  He is a very lazy eater.  He weighs about 13-14 lbs. so he is a big boy but I wonder if he is getting enough?  Also, does anyone have any suggestions to get him to be a better eater?  Thanks.

I have tried a #3 nipple (Avent) and he gags - it is too fast.  I currently have him using a #2 nipple.  He eats anywhere between 18-20 ounces of formula a day.  I have just started keeping track of things this week.  Normally at night he would get cereal in his bottles but I just started formula only all day yesterday.  He seems to be contented and I'm sure he would fuss if he was really hungary.  Maybe he just has a small stomach?  He almost doubled his birth weight in two months (from 7.2 to 12.13) and the doctor didn't express any concerns.  It probably is just me worrying too much.

Has he always ate 2-3oz or have you seen him decreasing his intake? Does he fuss towards the end of the bottle? Just wondering because my dd is doing the same thing, but she decreased her feedings to 3-4oz. from 5-6 oz per feeding. ??? Do you do a df? Also does your lo get up in the night to feed? Sorry for all the questions. :)

He has always been eating between 2-4 oz and will usually kick the bottle out with his tongue when he is done.  I do a dreamfeed around 11 pm and he usually goes down for bed around 9 pm.  He on a good night will get up at 3 am for a feed and then be up between 4:30 - 5:30 with gas.  He is a very gassy boy.  I even give him the gas drops with each feeding at night and he still wakes up having to toot in the middle of the night.  A diaper change usually helps and I just started swaddling him on top only so that he can kick his legs in hopes that he would toot on his own.
