Won't eat...
« on: March 11, 2006, 01:56:20 am »
My DD is 4 months old and had been on a sleep thru the night, eat 4 times per day (about 35-40 ounces.)  Last week she got a cold with a fever and since then is more gassy with a lot of burping. The fever is gone and she is just congested but now will only take four ounces at a time and will then want to eat an hour or 2 later and will take another four ounces.  She is also waking up in the middle of the night twice to eat about 4 ounces at a time.

She has a history of reflux and at times she will cry after two ounces a refuse to take anymore.  An hour later she may seem hungry.

Does anyone have any experience with the decrease in intake?  I thought it might be because of the cold and swallowing more air, but this is out first cold and I am bit confused.  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks

I am not sure, but maybe it is related to her congestion. My LO is always congested, has been since a week old. I have noticed that if it is really bad she won't eat. We use humidfiers to help and also saline drops. If you don't already have some, you can find them at almost any store. They are made to be gentle to the baby's noses (won't sting). They can also be used as often as needed. Her waking at night is probably b/c she is not longer getting as much during the daytime.
I don't know if this will help any. Hopefully someone else will read soon and give more advice.  :)

I have to agree with Angie, the reason your Lo is gettin gup at night is to make up for the lost oz's during the day. What size teat are you using?

nursing and when she takes bottles, which she has been doing to supplement and when I am at work, size 1.  We were not sure when to go to size 2.

Size 2 teats are usually from 3months onwards, have you tried a faster teat size?
