When do you drop a bottle??
« on: March 12, 2006, 23:45:02 pm »
My son is 9 months old, and has been on a 4 hour EASY forever....lately he's not taking much of his 10:30 am bottle, nor is he taking much of his 2:30 pm bottle.  Should I merge these two and give closer to his lunchtime (12:30?)  As of now, his schedule looks something like this...

6:30 wake and bottle
8:30 breakfast
nap
10:30 bottle
12:30 lunch
2:30 bottle
nap
4:00 snack
5:30 dinnner
6:30 bottle and bed
God will give you exactly what you ask Him for, even if it's not in the package you expected it to be in.

My DD dropped the 10:30 bottle first - around 9 months. I replaced it with a snack and a sippy of water. She adapted really well. I kept the next bottle around 2:30. You could try and keep it that late, or move it a bit earlier - an hour or so. Good luck!

I could have emailed that exact message!  I have the same situation.  My 9 month old dd isn't taking much of her 2nd morning bottle either.  When you say "drop" the bottle, does that mean we have to make up for those oz of formula?  So instead of a bottle at that time, should we give a snack and sippy of formula a little later so the amount of formula is the same? (rather than a sippy of water?)  I am just confused about keeping the daily amount of formula the same...

I'm still offering a little formula at this time...he usually only takes 2 or 3 oz, and then we have a snack.  I need to make his snack a little more substantial, though.  Any ideas?

Usually when you drop a bottle, either the other three bottles increase or you make up for the lost ounces with a snack. If your LO will take a sippy with formula, I would replace that bottle with a snack and a sippy of formula. Otherwise just a snack and try and increase the ounces in the other three bottles. I don't know how many ounces your LO is taking now, but once they start to eat more solids, their formula intake will decrease.

He won't take more than 6 or 7 oz at a time, but I always offer 8 :-)

Amy - Thomas takes the following - when he is not on a bottle strike  ::)

Breakfast - 8oz - He does not usually drink it all so I use the rest in his cereal

2:30 - 7oz Snack

6:15pm - 8oz - He usually drinks between 6-7oz of this.

I do offer him a yoghurt inbetween to make up some of the oz of dairy

Today I didnt' give him any formula at 11.  Instead he had 2 meat sticks, a half a jar of fruit, and some cheerios and water.  Then he had lunch at 12:30 and had two full jars of food and some cheerios.  Then he sucked down his 2:00 bottle and is squealing in his crib getting ready for his nap.  He woke up at 11 starving last night, so I need to add more to his meals as he wont take more formula.
