How long does your baby sleep? Unofficial survey
« on: March 13, 2006, 18:07:29 pm »
Hi all.  I see that there is a guideline thread for an estimate on how long your baby should sleep in a 24 hour period but I am curious to see what others are doing out there.

My dd sleeps (although not very well these days) from about 7-8 p.m. o'clock to 7-8 a.m. She has about 2.5 - 3 hours of naps during the day for a total of 15 hours in a 24 hour period.  She sleeps very restless at night so I am wondering if 7-7 is asking too much of her.  I just can't bear to think of her being up later than 8 p.m. and up before 7 a.m.  I like my evenings and to sleep in a bit... selfish selfish mommy.

Hello,
Lydia and Sam go to bed around 7, and usually wake around 6/7.  Occasionally they may wake once a night, sometimes they will want feeding.
They still sleep for 1 1/2 hours in every 3, so 6 hours a day.
Harry: 29 July 2003
Lydia: 28 June 2005
Sam:  28 June 2005
David: 28 June 2005 - 12 August 2005
Daniel: 19 July 2007
That's all folks!
(Well, maybe another girl if I can convince DH!)

fwiw... once they were sleeping through the night, my kids have had an 8pm bedtime, with morning wakeup anywhere between 7-8am.

That is nice to hear.  Sometimes I feel cruel trying to get that much sleep out of her.  Now if only I would go to bed at a decent hour ... its just too nice to be awake and free after dishes and laundry are done.

Hi Charlotte,

My ds is just a couple weeks younger than Charlie, and he sleeps from 7:30/8 pm until 8:00 am (with a few wakes in between but brief) and naps 10:00am - 12:00pm and then 3:00pm - 5:00/5:30pm.

Hi Charlotte,

Your Charlie and my Catherine were born on the same day  :)
Catherine wakes 6.45/7am then has 2 naps of 1.5-2hrs at 9.30am & 2pm then bedtime is 7pm.
Although when i gradually extend her awake time again in a few months i will probably put her to bed at 7.30pm.
You say Charlie is sleeping restlessly at night how long has this been going on? Does she go down for bedtime ok and how long does it take for her to fall asleep. Catherine is asleep within 5 mins for naps and 5-15mins for bedtime.

She goes down very nicely for naps and bedtime within 5 mins also and I am so very very thankful for that because things used to be TERRIBLE.  The last few nights she has been waking 5 -9 times evening and night.  Last night 7 times she ended up on her tummy crying and very angry.  We flip her over tuck her and and she is asleep.  20 mins later again she is on her tummy and crying.  Same thing keeps happening.

We put rolled up receiving blankets under her crib sheet but she still turns.  I wrap her legs so she can't use the bars of her crib but she still turns.  We tuck her in tight but she still turns.  I thought for sure she was going to be miserable today after such a restless sleep but today has been a great day except for my lack of sleep.

I was wondering if I should feed her dinner at 4:30 - 5:00 instead of 5:30 - 6:00.  I can't think of what else it would be.  I would be fine if she slept on her tummy but she hates it.

So on August 7 we both got to meet our little girls.  What a great day!

Hello

Our son is 6.5 months old. He goes to bed between 18h30 and 19h and wakes up between 5h30 and 6h. He also takes 2 naps of 1.5 hours. He stopped the 17h catnap last week so he is  tired earlier in the evening but he is slowly adjusting. My hope is that dropping the catnap (his choice, not mine  :D  ) will result in him sleeping a little more in the morning (my hope, not his  ;)  )

I think he is a little short on hours of sleep compared to "guidelines" but I am still in the "observation phase" to see what will happen with his new day routine before trying to do anything about it.

Hi ladies!!!

Well Paul is almost 5 MO and his bedtime is at 8pm and he wakes up at 7/7:30am (with a DF at 11pm, and he can wake one r two times just for a tuck in his blanket) and he sleeps two naps of 2hrs and a canap of 1hr, so if you add it up its like... 16 hrs or so  ;D

DS is in bed sleeping for 8pm and wakes at 7am.  (11hrs)  falls asleep within 10mins for all naps/bedtime sleep
Always has 2 naps ranging from 1hr to 2hrs and sometimes a catnap of 30-45mins

Max 15hrs in a day

Sophie's sleeping habits are changing. She goes to bed at about 6.45 and wakes between 6.30 and 7. Often she has a period of 2-3 hours in the night awake. She is currently sleeping for about 1-2 hours in the day spread over 2 naps. I suppose her total sleep in 24h is 11-13h. She is nearly 8.5months.

Charlotte,

Do you think Charlie is waking because she's become uncovered (and cold) or because she has turned? If the former, have you thought about using a grobag or similar so she's bagged up and warm no matter how she moves?

Just a thought

Oh, and my ds sleeps from 7/7.30pm through to 6.30 am with no wakeups and a df at 9.30pm. He sleeps between 1.5-3.5 hours through the day across 2 naps.

Hi there.  Sometimes yes I think she is cold and out of sorts what with her head being smashed up against the side of the crib but other times she is under the covers on her tummy, on her back or somewhere mysterious.

It is nice to see I am not expecting too much of her as far as hours of sleep go.  Thank you ladies.  Now to deal with the constant night wakings.
