8 Months - 2 Bottles?????
« on: March 15, 2006, 15:49:02 pm »
Hi all,

I was hoping you could help me.  My 8 month old has been on 3 bottles a day for the past month and a half.  However, he has now decided that he does not want his 2pm snack bottle - I am worried about this as if he drops this bottle it will mean that he is only taking 16oz a day.

Would it be ok if he dropped this bottle and I offered him a snack of yoghurt instead? and then upped his morning and night bottle to 9oz each instead of 8oz?

Please let me know what you think - your help is appreciated.

Thanks
Paula

I think it would be fine to drop the bottle at this age. I know Mothers who have gone to two bottles at 8 months. As long as he is getting calcium elsewhere - yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese etc. If he doesn't object, you could also try and put some formula in his sippy with the afternoon snack.

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your advice and putting my mind at ease.  I think I am going to go with an afternoon snack and try offering him some of his milk in his sippy.

I will always ensure MIL has milk to offer him if he wants it.

Thanks again for your advice it is appreciated.

I am so glad to hear that as my DD dropped to 3 bottles of 7ozs at 5 months and i am finding she is now only wanting 5.5ozs at her lunch bottle (always drinks all of her morning and night bottle) and i think over the next few months will slowly decrease. I was hopping to keep it until 12 months when i switch to cows milk and replace it with a snack (yoghurt or custard). However i am glad if she does it between 8-12months that is ok. She also has 2oz on her cereal in the morning with yoghurt. She has never been a big drinker she dropped to 4 hr EASY with no night feed at 2 months. However she drinks water from a cup during the day with all her meals.
