My LO is 4.5 months and wakes screaming in the night.
It's always a scream type cry, does anyone have any thoughts on why this is?

It could be a number of things;

too hot/cold
hungry
wet/soiled nappy
illness/pain
Is it always the same time?
How long does she do this for?
Do you rush into her?

Can you give us more information so we can try and help.

thanks

I have to admit I do get in there pretty quick and give her a dummy and pat, just cause it's the middle of the night and i don't want her waking up the neighbourhood!
I don't know if she is hungry, it happens about 3 hours after she goes down and then she doesn't settle again properly for the night. If i feed her she might eat a bit and then settle for a couple of hours but that's  it. She used to be very predictable and was slowly sleeping more and more until she hit 6 hour stretches at night, and then it all went out the window!
Generally she wakes at the same time, at 3, though last night it was earlier, but we did put her down earlier!

Is she getting enough in the day to drink, do you bottle or breast feed? Have you noticed her intake going down or has she had a growth spurt recently?  Have you introduced solids recently?

To be honest it does sound like she is hungry.

Are you on a 3 or 4 hr EASY?  can you post your routine.
thanks

I am breastfeeding.
I think that she did have a growth spurt a few weeks ago but she hasn't settled.
I was on a 3 hour easy but moved to 4 hours when she stopped settling. That was ok but I think that she might be wanting to feed more than that now?!
I know I am supposed to increase her calories during the day but I let her feed as long as she wants to at each feed.
Is it possible she is needing solids?
