I'd be very careful with dried fruit. If you rehydrate them in hot water until they're soft, that's okay, but most dried fruits are very chewy and sticky. That makes them a choking hazard and not safe for awhile yet.

i make a dried fruit purree...boil/steam first then puree...the flavor is strong so i give it with apple sauce or something of the sort.  i started doing this to help with iron as she isn't able to digest cereals very well.

I cook the dried fruits in a little water and then give them to DD.  the best recipe I have (and a firm fave for DD) is apple and raisin.  I put the apples into a pan with some water and cook them as usual and add some raisins for the last 5 minutes and then puree as normal.  she adores it and its a great way for her to get some dried fruit for roughage

I, too, was wondering about feeding dried fruit.  Are the preservatives a problem?  Sulphur dioxide seems to be a common one. ???

From "Top 100 Baby Purees"... "Aviod dried apricots treated with sulfer dioxide, as these can trigger asthma or allergies in susceptible babies.  Sulfer dioxide is used to keep the bright orange color, so it's best to choose darker brown dried apricots".
Read the ingrediants carefully.  You can also attempt to make your own.  You can use your oven.  I have never tried it, but I do have directions.

I give my 13 month old raisins and dried apricots.  Although I didn't know what Rachel said about the apricots and my lo does have allergies.  I will have to keep an eye out to see if there's any correlation.  Tarri

I didn't know that about the apricots either! But I make a puree by boiling prunes and apricots in water, adding apples for the last five minutes then pureeing both the fruit and the water.
